February 4, 2026 Melbourne, FL — The long-simmering contradictions of the “Recognize and Resist” (R&R) position have finally reached a boiling point. On February 2, the Feast of the Purification, Fr. Davide Pagliarani, Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX), announced that the Society will proceed with the consecration of new bishops on July 1, 2026, without a papal mandate.
For those of us who hold the Sedevacantist position, this news is not a surprise, but rather a final, public confirmation that the SSPX’s theological framework is in a state of total collapse.
The Ironic Appeal to a Freemasonic Church
According to the SSPX’s own press release, Fr. Pagliarani spent the latter half of 2025 attempting to negotiate with the man they claim is the Vicar of Christ, ‘Pope’ Leo XIV. After an audience request in August went unfulfilled and a subsequent letter received what Pagliarani called an “inadequate” response, the Society decided to take matters into its own hands.
If Leo XIV is truly the Pope, as the SSPX professes in every Mass, then he possesses the supreme, full, immediate, and universal ordinary power over the Church. By their own admission, they asked for his permission and were denied. To proceed anyway is not “resistance”—it is a total rejection of the very Papal authority they claim to uphold.
The “State of Necessity” Trap
Once again, the SSPX invokes the “State of Necessity” to justify this act of grave disobedience. But as Bishop Mark Pivarunas and other Sedevacantist theologians have pointed out for decades, a state of necessity cannot be used to contradict the magisterium of the church. You cannot ‘recognize’ a man as the head of the Church on Sunday and treat him as a non-authority on Monday. By consecrating bishops against the express will of their ‘Pope,’ the SSPX is acting completely sovereign outside of Rome’s jurisdiction. They are, in practice, Sedevacantist; they simply lack the theological consistency to admit the Chair of Peter is vacant.
The Path Forward: Logical Consistency, Not Confusion
While the SSPX prepares for a July confrontation that will likely lead to another round of “excommunications” from the Modernist hierarchy, the CMRI remains focused on the only logical path: total separation from the apostate structures of Vatican II.
We do not need to negotiate for the survival of the Faith with those who seek to destroy it. Our mission continues with clarity and the protection of the true Magisterium:
- April 28, 2026: The CMRI will hold its own Priest Ordinations in Omaha. These men will be ordained not in “resistance” to a Pope, but in the absence of one, ensuring the continuation of valid sacraments for the remnant flock.
The events of July 1 will undoubtedly draw the world’s eyes. But for the faithful who see with the Truth without the distortion of parasitic forces outside the tree of life who wish to feed on her. You cannot save the Church by offering them a banquet table to feast at.
